Old shoes and minature shoes are commonly used as apotropaions, most commonly against the evil eye. These miniature shoes are particularly interesting to me because their markings match the strange patterns on the vase in file mor016, confirming my assertions about the apotropaic nature of that vase. The designs are in blue and yellow, a popular Muslim color combination for warding off the evil eye.
