A Moroccan Necklace
with Triple Strands of Blue Beads

Blue beads are often used in the Mediterranean to ward off the evil eye. Folklorists have often noted triple strands around the necks of animals and people as well. This necklace is interesting in that it starts as a single strand and then breaks out to three strands of turqouise beads. Altogether, this makes five strands.

This necklace was photographed in the Moroccan crafts store Marrakech Express. I am extremely grateful to them for letting me photograph everything in their store.
